Nativas nace de la necesidad de conservar las especies de papas nativas en los Andes Ecuatorianos, que se encuentran amenazadas debido al monocultivo de especies modificadas y la hiper industrialización del sistema de alimentación. NATIVAS es también es un proyecto que me permite pensar el respeto a la naturaleza, la relación de los humanos con su entorno, su subsistencia y sostenibilidad en relación a los sistemas alimentarios. Me interesa desarrollar obras capaces de resignificar el valor de las papas nativas y el trabajo agrícola, para pensar posibilidades de resistir al sistema de consumo capitalista, para rescatar la memoria del tubérculo andino.

Se estima que en los Andes existen 4000 variedades de papas nativas, las mismas que no se consideran comerciales, debido a sus formas, colores y características de crecimiento y reproducción, por esta razón, en su mayoría estas se conservan dentro como un cultivo de subsistencia familiar. NATIVAS, busca poner en valor las especies de papas nativas y la importante labor agrícola, sus actores, y conocimientos.

Nativas was born from the need to preserve native potato species in the Ecuadorian Andes, which are currently threatened by the monoculture of modified species and the hyper-industrialization of the food system. NATIVAS is also a project that allows me to reflect on respect for nature, the relationship between humans and their environment, and issues of subsistence and sustainability in relation to food systems. I am interested in developing works that can re-signify the value of native potatoes and agricultural labor, as a way to imagine possibilities of resisting the capitalist consumer system and to recover the memory of the Andean tuber.

It is estimated that there are around 4,000 varieties of native potatoes in the Andes, which are not considered commercially viable due to their shapes, colors, and growth and reproduction characteristics. For this reason, most of them are preserved as part of family subsistence farming. NATIVAS seeks to highlight the value of native potato species, the importance of agricultural work, and the knowledge and people that sustain it.
